Assessments Pathways

Adult ADHD & Autism Assessments with Clinical Psychologist, Catherine Eliot

If you've spent years wondering why life feels harder than it seems for other people, an assessment can provide clarity, understanding and a path forward.

I specialise in assessing adults for ADHD, Autism and AuDHD, including Women, high-maskers and those who may have been overlooked earlier in life.

All assessments are conducted online Australia-wide using a comprehensive, evidence-based process that combines clinical interviews, validated assessment tools and professional diagnostic judgement.

Online assessments follow the same rigorous, evidence-based process as in-person assessments and are conducted via secure videoconferencing.

Many clients find online assessments more comfortable, less stressful and more accessible than travelling to a clinic.

Due to the high co-occurrence of Autism and ADHD, It is recommended to assess for both, especially when Autism is suspected.

How It Works:

Step 1 - Submit Enquiry

If you would like to book an ADHD and/or Autism assessment the first step is to submit an assessment booking enquiry.

I will then be in touch via email with availability for your intake appointment.

At your intake appointment we will book in your assessment appointment(s). Assessment appointments are typically booked 1-3 weeks in advance and full payment is required at the time of booking your intake. This is because the assessment process begins well before your assessment appointment.

You will then be sent a range of psychological self-report questionnaires and these are a essential part of the assessment process.

They must all be completed at least 1 week prior to your scheduled assessment appointment.

Step 2 - The Assessment Session

Your assessment appointment may run for between 2-4 hours (depending on the type of assessment) and is generally experienced as a detailed, collaborative discussion. My intention is to foster an environment that feels safe, respectful, and validating, where your lived experience is valued as essential and central.

Together, we will explore areas such as your developmental background, social communication patterns, interests, sensory experiences, executive functioning, and current day-to-day functioning to determine whether your profile aligns with diagnostic criteria for what you are being assessed for.

This session, alongside your intake information and assessment data, informs my overall conclusions.

Step 3 - After Your Assessment

After your assessment is completed we will meet 2 weeks later for a feedback session to discuss your results and report (if relevant) in detail. I will respond to any questions you may have.

Your report or summary letter will be emailed to you within 2 weeks after your diagnostic appointment.

Your Questions Answered

Are online assessments valid and recognised?

1

Yes. Online assessments are widely used in Australia and can be conducted effectively using the same rigorous and evidence-based assessment methods & standardised tools as in person assessments.

How do I get started?

2

Getting started is simple. If you would like to book an ADHD and/or Autism assessment, please complete the enquiry form. I will be in touch within 1-2 business days with availability and next steps.

Do I need a referral?

3

A referral is not required to book an assessment for ADHD or Autism. Unfortunately, Medicare does not currently offer rebates for assessment services.

Can you prescribe medication?

4

No. As a Clinical Psychologist, I am unable to prescribe medication for ADHD. If appropriate, assessment reports can be shared with a Psychiatrist or GP to support further discussion regarding treatment options. If you decide to see a Psychiatrist for medical management, they will go through their own assessment and diagnosis.

What if I’m not sure whether I have ADHD or Autism?

5

That is very common.

Many people seek assessment because they have a longstanding sense that something has been missed, or because previous explanations have not fully captured their experience.

The assessment process is designed to explore your experiences carefully and thoughtfully, rather than making assumptions from the outset. Much of the time, people’s suspicions are confirmed.
